We are having our annual bow rehair workshop!

The dates will be July 27, August 3, and August 10! So that’s three Saturdays that you will have an opportunity to learn from the best bow rehair-er on the gulf coast! We’re getting booked fast, so hurry and claim your spot! Here are some facts you should know about the workshop:

• 9 total hours
  • 3 hours per day, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
  • Optional additional 1 hour for one-on-one with Paula!
  • Dates: July 27, August 3, August 10
• $400 tuition
• Additional $300 for tools and supplies
  • You get to keep those tools! (List of tools found below)
• We will provide a wooden Violin/viola bow, unless you have one you’d like to use
• Must be 21 or over

With this workshop, you will learn how to disassemble, clean, polish, and reassemble a bow! This includes tying horsehair knots, determining the right length of hair, and how to cut tip, frog, and ferrule plugs. Trust us, it’s way harder than it sounds!

The weather has been a little wild lately! Huge variations in temperature and humidity can be pretty detrimental to the instrument’s wood, so we wanted to give y’all a few tips about preventing damage to your instrument.

1. Loosen the hair on your bow until slack
2. Keep your instrument away from the floor, where it is coldest
3. Do not leave instruments in a cold car (or in the car at all, for that matter!)
4. Keep away from space heaters
5. Try using humidifiers in your case or room! Special devices and humidifying packs can be found online or in our shop!
6. Try letting the instrument acclimate to the temperature you’re playing in, and try not to transport your instrument between hot and cold environments too rapidly

We are offering our fantastic bow rehairing workshop again this summer! Just like learning to play an instrument, bow rehairing requires patience and practice. But, just like learning to play an instrument, the work is so rewarding! This is a craft best learned in-person; don’t miss your opportunity to learn this timeless process. Experience with small tools is not needed for this workshop, though helpful. We require our students to be 21 or older.

We wanted to extend our warmest and sincerest thanks to the wonderful musicians that provided music for us and our cozy little shop! Many of them are students, such as the Carrollton String Ensemble, and members of local high school music programs, all shining brightly in their musical journey! Not to mention we also had the critically acclaimed Jack Craft come play for us too!
